CUSP is a landscape architecture and urban design practice, founded in 2013 with over 32 years industry experience. The eclectic skills bottom of Directors, Stephen Pate and Daniel Wright is derived from years of experience in urban design, landscape architectural design and planning, horticulture, construction, contract administration and landscape maintenance. CUSP was proudly engaged to produce urban design, master planning and landscape architectural services and was charged with ensuring the thriving connection of the City to the River in the broader context of the public realm via a series of cranky block connections, the re imagining and activation of 1.2km of previously neglected river foreshore, a new pedestrian bridge connecting the City to South Bank and public plaza levels within the ID including the Sky Walk. Located within the heart of Brisbane City at South bank, River Quay is a 42 hectare river edge precinct which has transformed an underutilized and remnant Expo 88 boardwalk site into a truly world class public realm. CUSP’s Director Stephen Pate worked with South Bank Corporation as lead consultant who worked in collaboration with Arkhefield to master plan and design the public realm of this distinguished Brisbane site. The overall objective was to flourish a fresh commercially viable and dynamic river edge destination with a unique Brisbane atmosphere. River Quay is one of South bank’s most successful and important projects, creating a highly interactive waterfront precinct for the ten million people who visit each year to enjoy Brisbane’s climate, culture and lifestyle. South bank Corporation’s short was to create an international quality river edge public realm that contributed to a sense of address for the parkland, provided fresh active edges whilst improving connectivity through the site as healthy as direct access to the Brisbane River. The pedestrian boulevard has enabled uncompromised views of the river and active frontages for its restaurants. The design of the precinct has been highly triumphant in enabling Brisbane’s community to own the river as a public space, whilst balancing the cultural and environmental landscapes with the commercial needs of its retailers. Stephen’s role encompassed strategies for parkland improvement including design and documentation and contract administration of parkland areas. His inclusive approach to management and coordination with considerable design teams has led to win on a substantial number of projects. With experience at senior and project manager levels in master planning, concept design, detailed design and construction supervision across a different range of projects Dan is equipped to yield inclusive and informed leadership as a Director of CUSP and collaborating with consultant teams. As a Development Manager, Dan was responsible for the thriving delivery of a broad scale residential community in a fresh market catchment. He has been both the project and design manager on large scale contracts for private and government agency clients which included management of the project from concept through to the post contract administration phase. Christoph is an experienced Senior Landscape Architect and leads a expansive range of projects across phases varying from concept design, development applications, and operational works through to gentle and construction administration and construction supervision. As the first employee of CUSP, John has been an integral portion in the growth of the business. Lauren is a talented and results aspiring Senior Landscape Architect with a powerful passion and appreciation for design and detail.
